The ideal boyfriend:

An Essay by Peter Nhan Nguyen

Do you have what it takes to be the ideal boyfriend?  If not, take a few pointers from Kelwyn Yung.  Born October 9th, 1983 in Monterey Park, California, this destined "Valley-ite" was born 15 minutes east of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, yet managed to develop into a respectable and responsible young man.  In his fourth year at the University of California, Irvine ("Go Anteaters!" he says), this 21-year-old computer science major has plans to connect the world.

The ideal boyfriend has a myriad of interests and thought-provoking ideas that he would like to foster and share for the betterment of mankind.  The main reason why Kelwyn was so inclined to further a career in the already expansive field of computers is this:  He believes computers are not only the next wave for industrialization, but also for the advancement of life through socially networking everyone and everything together.  Before you begin to conjure up visions of Orwellian nightmares, imagine being able to send an e-mail or text message to a mechanized hub located at your house that will let the dog out; or do the laundry or even prepare dinner before you
get home (mind you, these were all ideas that popped into my head while I was talking to Kelwyn about his ideas)!  Kelwyn Yung isn't vying for the role of a future Big Brother; nor is he looking to be the next Bill Gates (wait, aren't those two figures somewhat synonymous?).  He's just fascinated with the possibilities of a wire-bound universe and neither a militant stove nor an indignant washer and dryer will stop him from realizing his dream.

The ideal boyfriend never forgets important dates.  Kelwyn met his match on July 16th of last year (Kathy, forgive me if I've mixed up the dates) when a mutual friend introduced him to one Kathy Bao An Vuong.  It was this chance meeting that has since sparked a new renaissance within Kelwyn, introducing him to a new culture (he loves Vietnamese culture and compares a lot of it to his own) and igniting his views on religious thought and his own spirituality.   Kelwyn has been a confirmed Christian for more than two months now and has since been a loyal member of the North Hollywood Youth Ministry, focusing on fundraising events.  With his organizational skills and quick thinking, Kelwyn has managed to help this youth group raise hundreds of dollars, all of which will go towards furthering the Kingdom of God.

The ideal boyfriend will always have a good answer.  What is Kelwyn's favorite hobby?  "Eating", he blurts out.  "I'll eat almost anything, if it's good of course.  EXCEPT shrimp (allergic) and onions (no reason)." Basically, he will eat anything that is not related to or in the alliaceous family.  "Hanging out with Kathy, that's another
favorite hobby", he nervously states – and before I get a chance to write this off as a ploy to get points in with the GF, I quickly realize that he's being completely honest.  The beauty of Kelwyn's goals and aspirations in life all weave into the reasons why he
chooses to serve in the Ministry.  "I want to be a good provider for my future family.  I'd like to be a leader that will contribute to my community either socially, or religiously.  Any effort I can put in to help our youth group, that's something I want to do.  So I say (in all athletic regality!) just do it!"  (Kelwyn, I hope you have good legal
representation because I wouldn't be surprised if Nike contacted you within the next few days)

The ideal boyfriend is not a conceptual idea; he's for real!  So within the time it took me to write this article, I found myself questioning my journalistic integrity by asking myself:  "Is this an informative article I'm writing, or a hate piece?  This gentleman is setting impossible standards for normal guys and boyfriends like me."
Then it's settled.  I'm won over by his unabashed sincerity.  I love Kelwyn!
